This version of Cinderella closely resembles the Disney version, with a few distinctions. In this story, Yeh-shen (the Cinderella figure) finds power in the bones of her best friend, her pet fish. Once she bows down and asks the bones to help her, she is transformed just in time to go to the banquet. Also, instead of a glass slipper her slipper is described as tiny (which Chinese culture traditionally admires) and made out of different metals. This story was adapted from the original Yeh-shien story, which is recognized by most scholars as being the first Cinderella story to ever exist. It is especially perfect for anyone (especially) children who want to read the true “original” Cinderella and see how it compares/contrasts with the story we have today.
